  • About this chart
  • Introduction

In general, there's a positive correlation between a city's sustainability and its GDP per capita. However, the economic impact on sustainability diminishes once GDP per capita reaches a certain level. Economically advanced cities in China should focus more attention on social development, environmental protection, and resource efficiency.

  • Table Summary

Although sustainability in China is improving in recent years, it still has a long way to close the gap with international standards for most of the cities. The main gaps between Chinese cities and their international counterparts are in social, economic, and environmental categories, and more specifically in social and environmental cleanliness categories.
